In spring blossoms are susceptible to frost damage. Have some means on hand to protect them (row cover, sheet plastic, all night misting, etc.). In plantings that have been straw mulched over winter, the straw that is removed in spring can be piled between rows and placed back over blooming plants on frosty nights. When plants have become dormant (late November or early December) they should be given a protective mulch of about 2” of straw (to be removed in early spring).

Make rows 3 ½- 4 ft. apart. Space plants 12" to 24” depending on earliness of planting. Spread roots fan-like in the soil. If roots are exposed plants may die, if planted too deep they may rot. Water well as soon as planted.
