Do it Early!
We do most of our hiring for the spring season from February through March. We encourage to submit your application early for the first considerations.
Positions
Our main hiring season is in February and March. Seasonal positions usually last from hiring date until May and sometimes into June. we prefer full time (40 hours) a week, and we consider these applications first, but we do hire part time applicants as well. one weekend day is a requirement in all positions.
Cashier
Description
The cashier is usually the first person our customers see and who they come to with any questions they may have. So if you are reliable, enjoy helping people and are able to run a cash register, this position might be right for you!
Duties
Job duties include, but are not limited to: operating registers, scales and credit card/debit terminals. Collecting payments and bagging/ boxing up purchases for customers. Helping customers locate different regions of our sales area (vegetables, houseplants, perennials and nursery). Greeting customers when they enter our store. Referring customers to other employees for problem solving and quick location of items. Restocking chemicals and hard goods. Helping customers to their vehicle with merchandise. Gathering wagons and returning them to their proper area. Keeping counters and check out areas swept and clean.
Requirements
Ability to maintain an accurate cash drawer. Ability to lift 20 lbs. or more and stand on feet in one area for long hours at a time. Some prior knowledge of cash register preferred. Good memory skills. Good attitude and an ability to communicate well with customers.
Seasonal Grower
Description
A seasonal grower spends a lot of time in the greenhouse and potting. It is very rewarding to see the plants grow under your care. Temperatures in the greenhouses can be much warmer than outdoors, so it could be 30° outdoors and sunny, but in the greenhouse it could be 80° or higher, so an ability to tolerate heat is a must.
Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to: The general needs of the plants such as watering, fertilizing, trimming, pinching, deadheading, cleaning, and weeding. Keeping sales area stocked, organized and clean. Assisting customers in locations of plants and how to care for them.
Requirements
Must be able to work in the sun, good equilibrium, able to lift 25 lbs. or more, able to bend and stretch. Must be a good observer, who is able to see differences in plant growth or needs. Have the ability to listen and follow directions. Have an active interest in plants. Plant knowledge is a plus, but will train the right individuals.
Potter
Description
In the spring, we have lots of potting to do and we hire seasonal workers to help us get the job done. It is so rewarding seeing the seedlings that you pot up grow into beautiful plants. With potting you will learn the different planting needs of each plant, how some plants are very fragile and others are remarkably strong. Also many plants look different as babies than they do when they are grown. It’s amazing to see their growth cycle from the beginning into a fully grown plant.
Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to: Setting up and filling flats with soil. Potting seedlings, plugs and other plant material and tagging them correctly. Carting out plants once they are potted. Watering in the transplants. Keeping area neat and clean. Also sometimes requires pinching, cleaning and spacing plants. Often we work as a team and we join together to complete big projects, which may well include moving plants from one greenhouse to another.
Requirements
Must have basic math skills, able to stand on concrete for eight hours, able to work in the sun, good equilibrium, able to lift 25 lbs. or more, able to bend and stretch, ability to listen and follow directions, have good hand-eye coordination, good agility with hands, and good at attention to detail. An interest in plants is a plus.
Support Services
Description
This job is a very versatile as you will be helping customers, employees and also doing regular stocking, loading, and maintenance needs. Sometimes gathering orders and doing deliveries. This job is what keeps our property running smoothly!
Requirements
Carpentry, mechanical, forklift, or front-end loader experience are all a plus, but not required as we will train the right individual. Valid driver’s license required.
Duties
Job duties include customer service, stocking, selling, and loading soils, mulches, and other merchandise. General maintenance tasks as they arise.
