While the vine is young train it into the desired shape, or permanent framework. Growth should be trained and secured to the front or top of the trellis or arbor. If vines are allowed to twine around any part of the trellis they may well pull it apart as they grow. Also, if the trellis has to be replaced in the future it can be done without damaging the vine.
