Air Plants

Also known as Tillandsia, air plants are often considered low maintenance as they do not need to be potted in soil. They still require regular watering, but can create unique living décor in your home when mounted on wood, stones, ceramic, or just set atop whatever you’d like. We always have a table dedicated to them in our tropicals greenhouse, so any time of year you can be guaranteed to find a selection of them.

Annuals

Every spring we have a vast selection of annuals ranging from small 4-packs to hanging baskets and mixed containers.

During the summer we offer larger summer pots, which are perfect for filling in blank areas in your flower garden or for use in planters to decorate for parties or weddings.

In the fall we have mums, pansies, dianthus and other cool loving annuals.

Bonsai

We carry a wide selection of both hardy and tropical bonsai, often including juniper, maples, and various ficus, to name just a few. They are available both as starter plants and as fully potted, pre-shaped Bonsai. If you’re interested in learning how to pot one yourself using a starter plant, our team is happy to assist! Our tropical bonsai are available year-round, while hardy are available from spring-fall. We do not stock hardy bonsai during their winter dormancy. We also have a selection of bonsai tools, pots, soil, and accessories! Our house blend of bonsai soil is hand sifted multiple times, resulting in an ideal and uniform bark size. We then add crushed quartz and high fired clay for optimal drainage. Our recipe was passed down by Helen May decades ago and is the same mix we still use today.

Bulbs

Each spring and fall we stock an extensive variety of premium Dutch bulbs, including allium, crocus, daffodils, hyacinth, tulips, and more.

Cacti

We stock an extensive selection of cacti year-round. From 2” starter pots to large statement specimens, our collection includes San Pedro (Cereus), Prickly Pear (Opuntia), Barrel (Ferocactus), Pincushion (Mammillaria), and more!

Fruits

We carry over 20 different types of fruit with over 70 varieties! Our widest selection is available mid-April, ranging in size and price to suit any budget. In our nursery you will find many fruit trees, such as apple, pear, and more along with shrubs like elderberry or chokeberry. Out by our perennial house you can find our blueberries, strawberries, grapes, and much more. In our tropical greenhouse you can find a wide array of citrus, along with olives, bananas, and often oddballs like dragon fruit or papaya. We carry tried and true varieties of each fruit that we grow, ensuring that our customers are sure to be happy with their selection.

Herbs

In the spring we have over 100 different varieties of herbs – one of the largest selections in our area!

Later in the year we try to keep the basic culinary herb plants available when they are scarce elsewhere.

Running short on basil and parsley for your pesto? It’s very likely we’ll have it available. Using fresh herbs makes a big difference in your favorite meals. We pride ourselves in carrying uncommon varietals you might not find elsewhere.

Houseplants

We keep our tropical/houseplant greenhouse stocked all year long with a massive selection for any budget. From our beloved staples to the exotic rarities, we carry hundreds of varieties including, peperomia, calathea, philodendron, pothos, as well an extensive collection of hoya, and many more!

Our staff is eager to help you find the right houseplant for your home. We even propagate and grow many of them right here ourselves, allowing us to keep select prices as low as possible, with many as low as $4.

Orchids

Twice a year we take a pilgrimage up to Chicago to hand select dozens of high quality uncommon orchids you won’t find anywhere else around here (at least we haven’t!) These trips happen in early spring and fall, but we also carry a selection of stunning phalaenopsis year round.

Perennials

During the growing season we carry hundreds and hundreds of perennials species perfect for landscaping your home or garden.

The Mays Greenhouse team is proud of our ever-growing selection of native plants, as sustainable planting is a passion many of us share.

Roses

Shortly before Mother’s Day our roses become available for sale. We carry over 50 different varieties, including knock-outs, floribundas, hybrid teas (grandifloras), climbing roses, ground cover roses, and shrub roses. All in a wonderous variety of colors.

Spring Tropicals

Every spring our houseplants greenhouse makes room for spring tropicals, such as mandevilla, plumbago, bougainvillea, canna, and more. Preparation for our spring crop begins growing as early as November to ensure all are healthy and lush specimens by the time they hit our shelves.

Succulents

There are countless succulent species available year-round, many of which are propagated and grown in-house. This allows us to keep our prices competitively low without compromising on quality. We ensure that we have a rotating variety throughout the year, large enough to entice hobbyists, collectors, and even to fill large scale bulk orders for local events, as we love partnering with our community.

Terrarium & Carnivorous Plants

We carry a rotating assortment of affordable plants perfect for your next terrarium project. Our selection includes a variety of carnivorous plants, such as venus flytraps, pitcher plants, and sundews. You will also find a wide range of small terrarium plants, including ferns, baby tears, pilea, peperomia, and many more. Terrarium glass, decorative stones, and other supplies are available in the store.

Trees & Shrubs

We carry over 300 different varieties of shrubs and trees during the growing season. From arborvitae and azalea to willows and yuccas. We carry a large assortment of flowering, fruiting, and just plain interesting shrubs and trees to cover any dull area in your yard. Our biggest selection is usually available mid to late April, however we keep a supply of trees and shrubs year-round. If you aren’t quite sure what to do with an empty space in your yard, our staff will be happy to offer some suggestions!

Vegetables

Every spring we strive to supply the best varieties and the largest selections of high quality vegetable plants in our area.

We carry 60+ varieties of tomatoes, 60+ varieties of peppers, cole crops (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, etc), celery, cucumber, eggplant, leeks, lettuce, okra, onions, potatoes, squash, zucchini and much more!

Water Plants

Every spring and summer we carry tropical and hardy water plants for your pond. Several types to choose from, including hyacinths, papyrus, sweetflag, cannas, taros, umbrella palms, water clover, pennyworts, creeping jenny, irises, hibiscus, and more. Best selection early.

Garden Supplies

We have many garden supplies including but not limited to watering cans, hand tools, watering wands, trellises, soil testers, pruners, sun hats, saucers, plant supports, seed sowers, fertilizers, animal repellants, insecticides, fungicides, soil amendments, sphagnum and decorative moss, and much, much more. Ask our garden experts in the store for any gardening help you may need!

Giftware

We keep a large selection of giftware in our store, including bird baths, fairy world, garden décor, Majesty Bells, sun dials, wind chimes, and more! With many unique items to choose from, there’s sure to be something perfect for the gardeners in your life.

Garden Décor

We have a large selection of critter feeders, including hummingbird, squirrel, butterfly, orioles and birds. Plus we have several accents such as bird baths, garden plaques, gazing balls and many other items.

Soils

We have a large selection of bagged soils including orchid, cactus, African violet, our house-made bonsai, potting soil, topsoil, seed starter, plus lots of amendments to get your soil in the best condition for your plants. This year we proudly became a retailer of Fox Farms soils! We may not carry the brands you are used to seeing in bog box stores, because we only carry products we personally use and believe in so that you can rest assured that any soil you buy from us is premium, high quality, and the same brands we use at home ourselves. The better the soil suits the plant, the better the plant will perform for you! Talk to our staff about which soil is best suited to your needs.

Seasonal Items

Heading into the fall & winter, you may think we slow down and scale things back, but the reality is that we stay running year-round and adapt to seasonal needs. In the fall we offer a large selection of local pumpkins, gourds, and squash, for your decorating or pie making needs. Our pumpkins are priced uniformly, not by weight, so you can pick whichever you’d like, without worrying about value! We also carry local corn shocks and ornamental corn. Every fall we have our big Fall Festival, partnering with over 20 local vendors to celebrate another successful growing season in this wonderful community of ours.

Every holiday season we ship in hundreds of fresh cut Frasier Fir Christmas trees from farms in North Carolina and Michigan. We carry an assortment of fresh handmade wreaths, greens, and garlands. Handmade bows and custom decorations are available in “Santa’s Workshop” or by special order. Every winter our Herbs and Veggies greenhouse transforms into a winter wonderland with a vast selection of poinsettia, grown right here in Indiana by our good friends at Hoosier Boy Greenhouses.
