January - Flowering period
February thru March - Resting period, keep cool (55 degrees) and water infrequently.
April - Growing resumes, start watering as soil begins to dry out and can start fertilizing.
May - Can place outdoors in a shady spot by mid to end of May.
June thru August - Continue to water regularly and fertilize lightly.
September - Pre-flowering period, stop fertilizing.  Bring indoors when temperatures drop below 50 degrees at night.
October - Keep dry and cool until flower buds form, then increase water and temperature.
November thru December - Flowering period, water normally and maintain a minimum temperature of 55 degrees.

and 10 hours of daylight each day.  Covering it with a cardboard box or setting it in a closet for the required time each day can accomplish this.  When the bracts begin to color, grow once again as a normal houseplant.
